Peugeot’s new medium-sized family car offering, the 308, has arrived in Ireland. Available from launch in three and five door hatchback guise with a choice of six trim levels, matched to six engine options, the 308 will retail in Ireland from €20,395, plus Dealer delivery related charges.
Sharing the same wheelbase as the 307 five door hatchback, but with an increased length of 74 mm and width of 53 mm, the 308 provides more interior and luggage space than the outgoing model. To improve the 308’s dynamic performance the width of both the front and rear tracks have been increased as well as the rigidity of the body. Larger wheels up to 18” are also available.
During the development of the 308, Peugeot included its tyre supplier Michelin in its programme of innovations. This led to the creation of a high tech tyre for the 308 from the all-new Michelin Energy Saver range. The world-first technology used in the Michelin Energy Saver tyre, improves the vehicle’s overall environmental efficiency. It allows a reduction of 4g/km of CO2* which corresponds to a reduction of around one tonne of CO2 during the life of the vehicle.
Standard equipment on all models includes: power steering, driver airbag, passenger airbag, side airbags, curtain airbags, remote control central locking with deadlocks, electric front windows, steering column adjustable for reach and rake, radio / single CD player, passenger / driver seat height adjustment, ABS with EBFD and EBA, trip computer and electrically operated door mirrors.
Speaking at the press launch at Carton House, Maynooth, Mr Mark O’Connell, Peugeot Sales and Marketing Director said, “The new Peugeot 308 is a worthy successor to the popular 307. With the 308, Peugeot has drawn on the key strengths found in 307 and blended in all the right ingredients to appeal to a highly diversified customer base in search of modernity, attention to detail, control and convenience. Our sales forecast for 2008, in a highly competitive segment, is to reach 3,000 units.”
The new Peugeot 308 hatchback is available for test drives at Peugeot Dealerships nationwide during Peugeot Drivetime, from November 3rd to December 21st.
*ISO test carried out by the TÜV SÜD Automotive in 2007 on the 195/65R15 tyre. Data includes six top ranking manufacturers’ products bought on the market.
